Renault had announced last year that they will be bringing a small car to India and in May this year they unveiled the car that will be launched before the festive season. Christened the Kwid – the same as the concept – the car has soon garnered a lot of interest and is becoming one of the most awaited launches in India.
We’ve seen the car in the flesh and can tell you that it’s pretty good to look at. It is more or like like a baby Duster because it retains that SUV like stance and that is what Renault was after. Though we’ve seen it we don’t really know how it will be to drive and that will happen soon enough. But a YouTube user saw the car undergoing testing and posted a video which shows that it has quite a commanding road presence when compared to its rivals – theMaruti Suzuki Alto 800, Hyundai Eon, and 2015 Tata Nano GenX.
The new Renault Kwid hatchback is built on an all-new small platform – the CMF-A – developed by the Nissan-Renault Alliance. The Kwid’s localisation level stands at 98 per cent – the highest for any Renault car in India till date and because of this achievement, the company will be able to price the car between 3-4 lakh.
It gets a new 800cc, 3-cylinder, petrol engine that has also been developed by the alliance and according to the company, the Kwid will return best-in-class mileage. Inside, you get a digital instrument cluster, a navigation system, Bluetooth, USB port and good cabin space. The Kwid will be produced at Renault’s plant in Chennai but will not be exported as its performance in India will see it entering other emerging markets.
Check out the video and tell us what you think about the Kwid.
